While the Atlanta Braves organization continues to see several pitching prospects excel at the upper levels of the minor leagues, unfortunate news emerged from the lower levels on Wednesday afternoon. According to the official social media accounts of the Augusta GreenJackets, infielder Jose Perdomo has been placed on the Full-Season Injured List.

As a reminder, Jose Perdomo was the top international free agent signing in the Braves’ 2024 class, receiving a $5 million bonus. His development has progressed at a measured pace, which is not uncommon, but the 2026 season carried legitimate anticipation as it marked his first opportunity to compete at the Low-A level.

Unfortunately, the 19-year-old never got out of the box—both figuratively and literally. Reports surrounding Perdomo’s injury indicate the incident occurred as he slipped while exiting the batter’s box. While no official diagnosis has been announced, a placement on the Full-Season Injured List typically suggests a significant recovery timeline.

Top international prospect Jose Perdomo sadly hit another injury setback

Although Perdomo is still in the early stages of his professional career, the Venezuelan native has already encountered multiple injury setbacks. That context made his arrival to camp all the more encouraging, as he appeared more physically mature and healthy in preparation for the upcoming season, generating genuine optimism within the Braves organization.

Unfortunately, it appears to be a reset for Perdomo, who is among several international free agent signings in the Braves system to experience an extended run of injuries. The encouraging aspect is that, at just 19 years old, he still has ample time to build a successful professional career. However, establishing sustained health will be critical, allowing him to consistently develop the areas of his game that require refinement.

For now, the focus for Perdomo and the Braves shifts toward recovery and long-term development. While this setback is undoubtedly disappointing given the momentum he carried into the season, it does not diminish his potential. If Perdomo can return to full health and remain on the field, he will once again have the opportunity to translate his tools into production and reestablish himself as one of the more intriguing young talents in the system.
