The Atlanta Braves had some breakout performances from some of their top prospects in spring training. It's always fun to see how talented the farm system is for the organization, and there's a lot to be excited about.

One of those breakout performances came from shortstop John Gil. He showed some great promise this spring and surprised everyone with his ability to hit for power. Gil hit a couple of homers and looked like he was progressing well.

He carried that good work from the spring into his first game of the season. Gil blasted a three-run home run to give the Rome Emperors a 3-1 lead over their opponent. Gil completed his season debut 2-for-7 with a homer, four RBI, one walk, and one strikeout. That's not a bad day at the plate for the youngster.

Braves prospect John Gil just keeps impressing down in the minor leagues

There is a lot of intrigue surrounding Gil, who is currently listed as Atlanta's 10th-best prospect.

After he signed with the Braves in January 2023 out of the Dominican Republic for $110,000, he has proven to be the best prospect from that class in Atlanta's system. Gil has played well, showing off his great speed and defense. Gil's range at the position is graded at a 70, so there's no doubt he could stick at shortstop throughout his career. Though he could easily shift over to second base if the team ever needed him to.

Gil will also be a great asset on the bases as he has stolen 143 bases since starting his career in the U.S. At the plate, Gil has shown some promise as well, drawing walks and not striking out very often. The only thing he needs to do is add some power to his game, which he seems to have figured out a bit.

The Braves are starting to see a lot of talent rise within the organization. There are a lot of talented pitchers and position players springing up. This will be important for the future, whether they make an impact on the field or land a big trade for the Braves at some point.

Gil will have a chance to make the roster at some point. This is a player fans need to keep an eye on the rest of the year.
