Braves vs. Cardinals rain delay 7/20: Updates, start time, and more
Truist Park can't block out the rain lately.
Mother nature has taken over Truist Park this weekend. After yesterday's game was postponed due to inclement weather, today's opening contest between the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals is now in a delay as well. We are excited for the Braves to begin some very important baseball, but it seems we're getting delayed more than flights these days.
The teams were scheduled to play a split doubleheader this afternoon, but the rain clouds seems to be on a mission in the southeast. Last night the pitching matchup was supposed to be rookie Spencer Schwellenbach versus veteran Sonny Gray. However, due to the postponement both teams decided to make a pivot.
Scrambled pitching matchups
Instead, the pitching matchup for game one will be Charlie Morton against the veteran Kyle Gibson. Although it hasn't been officially announced yet, Bryce Elder is expected to serve as the 27th man today and start game two against Sonny Gray. This would push Schwellenbach to start the finale tomorrow.
Last night saw the second half of the season begin for everyone else outside of the Braves and Cards. Hopefully, the rain subsides soon and we can finally get Braves baseball back.
Braves 2024 MLB Draft coverage
Until then we have plenty of content here at HTHB to keep you entertained. Firstly, some big news that came late last night was the signing of 2024 first round pick Cam Caminiti.
We have plenty of coverage on the 24th overall pick here at the site, including a full breakdown of his pitch-mix, and long-term projection. Once Caminiti signed last night that pushed the total to nine out of the top 10 picks that have agreed to terms with the Braves thus far.
All that remains is the high school catcher and fifth round pick, Nick Montgomery. You can keep track of all the Braves draft selections and their signing bonuses via this link here.
