Braves vs. Cardinals rain delay: Updates and more
The start of the second half of the season will have to wait just a bit more.
Braves fans were pumped up to get a crucial second half of baseball underway tonight at Truist Park. Unfortunately, rain in the southeast has been a common theme this week. As a result, the scheduled 7:20 p.m. EST start time will not happen. As of right now there are no estimated start times.
Instead, the Braves and visiting St. Louis Cardinals must sit through a rain delay. The first thing you think about during these delays of course is the routine of the starting pitchers. Tonight's matchup features rookie Spencer Schwellenbach taking the mound for Atlanta, and veteran Sonny Gray getting the ball for the Cards.
Of course the veteran Sonny Gray has worked through rain delays much more often, so early advantage goes to St. Louis. Hopefully, the rain subdues quickly and we can get the second half of the season started sooner than later.
While you wait on the second half of the season to get underway, we have some great content here at HTHB to kill the time.
Braves 2024 Draft recap
Firstly, the Braves have signed nine of their top ten picks in the recent MLB Draft. With their first pick, Atlanta selected impressive 17 year-old lefty Cam Caminiti. It was also just announced that Caminiti has signed for the full slot value of $3.5 million.
If you want to read more about the impressive Arizona native, you can do so via this post here. The rest of the Braves draft is like the rest of the league's, pitching heavy.
Braves roster moves
In Braves roster news, Atlanta got back an injured outfielder from the IL early this morning. It was the veteran RHH Ramon Laureano, who had been sidelined since late June with an oblique injury. However, Laureano isn't in the starting lineup tonight, as manager Brian Snitker has elected for the Kelenic, Duvall, Rosario trio.
Update** postponed
The Braves have officially announced tonight's game is postponed. The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader tomorrow July 20th.
