The Atlanta Braves' track record in the MLB draft has been tremendous in recent years for the most part. Notable misses include Ryan Cusick and Jared Shuster to be sure, but the Braves are as good as any team in baseball at finding talent that fits their player development strengths and who can help the big league team in a hurry. One need only look at Michael Harris II and Spencer Strider as recent draft picks that didn't look like premium picks at the time, but who went on to be a critical pieces for the Braves very quickly.
Now that the 2024 MLB Draft has come to a close, fans are eager to see how the Braves made out. Atlanta was greeted with a surprise in the first round when Cam Caminiti, the best prep pitcher in the draft class, was still sitting there and that pick had ripple effects throughout the rest of the Braves' draft class. All that is left now is to see if the Braves can sign all of these guys and how much they will cost.
Which Atlanta Braves 2024 draft picks have signed and for how much?
MLB's draft bonus pool system is a bit weird, but the gist is that a team's bonus pool number comes from adding the pre-assigned slot values for all of their picks for rounds 1-10 and that sum is a team's bonus pool for a given draft class.
In the Braves' case, they didn't have any extra draft picks and they picked towards the bottom of each round which gave them a total bonus pool of $7,765,000 that can spread out however they want for their picks in rounds 1-10 as well as to give bonuses over $150,000 to picks in rounds 11-20. The Braves can go 5% over their bonus pool allowance and only get a tax as punishment, but they won't go anymore than that as the punishment include losing draft picks at that threshold.
There is definitely going to be some bonus pool money that is going to be moved around this year with the Braves as Caminiti appeared to be a mortal lock to require an overslot bonus more that the $3,556,300 slotted for the 24th overall pick before he signed for exact slot somehow. However, the Braves still will have to move some money around to sign some of their day two and day three picks.
Atlanta has until August 1, 2024 to sign their draft picks, but history suggests that they will have little trouble doing so. Here is a look at who the Braves drafted in 2024, whether or not they have signed yet, and how much they signed for (this will be updated as that information becomes available).
