If you were to ask most fans and experts alike before the start of the season, they would have told you that Atlanta Braves prospect Luis Guanipa was a bit of a flop. He looked "better" in 2025 when on the field, but a broken hand cost him a lot of time, and there was little hope that the Braves would ever be able to see the upside they were betting on when they gave Guanipa a $2.5 million signing bonus in 2023. However, things have changed dramatically this season.
In short, Guanipa has been one of the Braves' best performing hitting prospects this season, which is actually saying something for a change. While not quite as flashy as what Tate Southisene and Eric Hartman have done this season, Guanipa has put up the kind of numbers that would normally get celebrated across the minor leagues.
Now, it is time for the Braves to give Guanipa a chance to prove with a promotion to high-A, because leaving him where he is isn't doing anyone any good.
Luis Guanipa deserves a promotion, and the Braves probably need to get on it soon
If this were Guanipa's first look at full-season ball, it would make sense for the Braves to take their time with him. However, this is actually his third season at low-A, with his previous two looks getting shortened by injuries. Guanipa isn't a teenager anymore, and now is the chance to get him back on track towards being on a path to the majors. With him hitting .312/.358/.498 across 54 games with eight homers and 23 steals, there is nothing left for him to prove at Augusta.
Now, does that mean that Atlanta needs to go crazy and have Guanipa skipping levels? Absolutely not. However, a bump up to high-A should give everyone a better sense of exactly how "real" Guanipa's turnaround has been this season. Finding space in Rome's outfield is a little tricky at the moment, but Isaiah Drake is another guy who has been at the same level for a while and probably needs to get moved to Double-A anyway. Take this opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.
If the Braves opt to keep Guanipa in low-A at this point, it could be telling as to how the organization feels about his future. The numbers have been great, but the proof is in the pudding, and there is a real chance that Guanipa's production is more a symptom of playing at the same level repeatedly. However, there is actually only one way to find out if that is true, and the Braves need to stop wasting everyone's time and get on with it.
