Social media is a funny place these days. Not only does it enable some truly wild (and oftentimes horrid) takes out there, but it also can result in some really bizarre crossover feuds in full public view. Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones found himself involved in such a beef over the weekend with a truly unlikely source.

Jones is no stranger to social media controversy and is among the most likely retired players to post whatever thoughts, however ill-advised, pop into his head if he has his phone available to him. For some, that adds to his appeal and authenticity while others would prefer that he just sit some conversations out.

However, the situation that Chipper found himself over the weekend was a bit weirder than that. Former Falcons QB and current football broadcaster for CBS Sports Danny Kanell took a shot on Twitter/X at the University of Florida over the weekend. Not one to let Florida slander stand, Chipper decided to blast Kanell.

Predictably, not only did Kanell respond in kind and put Chipper on blast for blocking him, but he then proceeded to make a list of his top 12 Braves players of all-time predictably without Jones among them.

Danny Kanell and Chipper Jones are feuding on social media and it is pretty hilarious

Few would have predicted these two to go after each other, but perhaps we should have seen it coming. Chipper seems to relish roasting takes he doesn't like on social media and Kanell has a well-earned reputation for some wild takes and a willingness to scrap as well. At some point, both guys were likely to butt heads with someone high profile, although the sports crossover we are seeing now may not have been high on the list of probable outcomes. Chipper feuding with Rosenthal or Passan is still in the cards, at least.

Aside from the beef, Kanell's list is objectively hilarious for the inclusion of Ken Oberkfell over other Braves luminaries such as Max Fried, Andruw Jones, and Brian McCann. Perhaps they all said something mean about Kanell in the past or he just has some very particular tastes in what he wants from baseball players. Nonetheless, removing Jones from his list is pettiness of the highest order.

During a time when the news cycle is dominated by offseason speculation, it is kinda nice to get a reprieve in the form of comic relief like this. One hopes that it doesn't get too out of hand as things could get pretty ugly/gross in a hurry. Fortunately, Chipper blocking Kanell makes it a little less likely that he will pursue the feud even further.
