At the start of every spring training, Atlanta Braves fans eagerly await to see which players are showing up in the best shape of their lives, and what the team's newest additions look like in a Braves uniform. Some also can't wait to see which numbers they're wearing, as well as which players changed numbers.
Every year, we break down each number change. This year, there were more number swaps than normal. Here's what we were able to find using MLB.com, as well media published by reporters during spring training.
Familiar Braves players with new numbers in 2026
Ha-Seong Kim #7 (old number #9) | Last worn by Jurickson Profar (2025)
Before Ha-Seong Kim made the leap from the KBO to MLB, he played seven seasons for the Nexen / Kiwoom Heroes, wearing number seven for his entire tenure. He continued wearing the number when he signed with the San Diego Padres in 2021, and when he signed with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2025, José Caballero was willing to give him the numbe.r
However, when he was claimed by the Braves at the end of the season, the number was taken by his former Padres teammate, Jurickson Profar, so Kim took number nine instead. Going into 2026, it appears the Padres-turned Braves teammates worked out a deal, allowing Kim to take his his old number.
Jurickson Profar #17 (old number #7) | Last worn by Vidal Bruján (2025)
Unlike Kim, Jurickson Profar hasn't ever been married to a number, In fact, since debuting as a teenager in 2012, the Curaçao native has worn seven different numbers on five different teams, never taking a number worn on one team to another.
This trend will continue, as Profar has never worn number 17 before 2026.
Walt Weiss #22 (old number #4) | last worn by Erick Fedde (2025)
After spending eight seasons in the Braves dugout wearing number four, Walt Weiss decided that he'd commemorate his promotion from bench coach to manager by switching his uniform number to 22.
Walt Weiss's favorite number during his playing days was 22, but it was taken by Nick Markakis when he first joined the coaching staff.
Nacho Alvarez Jr. #24 (old number #67) | Last worn by Jarred Kelenic (2024-2025)
Positions isn't the only thing Nacho Alvarez Jr. is changing this spring. The infielder was assigned number 17 when he debuted in 2024, but was reassigned to number 67 in 2025 for some reason. Now, in 2026, he'll switch again, and is wearing number 24.
Rolddy Muñoz #67 (old number #70) | last worn by Nacho Alvarez (2025)
Muñoz made a three-game cameo in 2025 wearing number 70. He'll now wear number 67 in 2026.
Didier Fuentes #72 (old number #75) | Last worn Allan Winans (2023-2024)
Didier Fuentes wore number 75 last season, but after the Braves signed Robert Suarez, who wore number 75 with the Padres, Fuentes switched.
New Braves players numbers
Jorge Mateo #2 | Last worn by Nick Allen (2025)
Mateo wore number three with the Orioles, but that number is retired in Atlanta, so instead, he'll take the number worn by last year's shortstop, Nick Allen.
Mauricio Dubón #14 | Last worn by Bryan De La Cruz (2024)
Dubón wore number 14 with the Astros, and the number was available with the Braves.
Mike Yastrzemski #18 | Last worn by José Azocar (2025)
While Mike Yastrzemski will wear the number he wore with the Royals. The number he wore with the Giants for the seven seasons prior, number five, is pseudo-retired by the Braves.
Jonah Heim #20 | Last worn by Marcell Ozuna (2020-2025)
The Braves recent catcher addition takes number 20. He wore number 28 with the Rangers the last five seasons, but that number is taken by his former A's teammate, first baseman Matt Olson.
Robert Suárez #75 | Last worn by Didier Fuentes (2025)
After a brief setback to start spring training, Robert Suárez joined the Braves pitchers and catchers wearing number 75, a number he's worn since he was pitching in the NPB in Japan. When he signed with the Padres in 2022, he continued wearing the number. Although the last Braves player to wear the number is still on the team, it appears Suárez will get his preferred number, and Didier Fuentes will switch to number 72.
Ian Hamilton #71 | Last worn by Nathan Wiles (2025)
Hamilton, a free agent addition, is actually wearing the same number with the Braves that he did with the Yankees.
New coaches numbers
There are a bunch of new coaches this year, with only Walt Weiss, Tim Hyers, and Eddie Perez remaining from last year. It appears the Braves have a new numbering convention, with every coach getting a high number, starting in the 80s, following what happened last year.
Here's how they'll line up numerically:
Dustin Garneau, catching coach – #81
Tony Diaz, major league coach – #83
Tommy Watkins, third base coach – #84
Jeremy Hefner, pitching coach – #85
Antoan Richardson, first base coach – #86
J.P. Martinez, bullpen coach – #87
Darnell Coles, assitant hitting coach – #88
Tony Mansolino, bench coach – #89
