The Atlanta Braves are one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball right now. They are 26-11 thanks to the offense performing at incredible levels. Atlanta also holds the best road record at 14-5 after their win over the Mariners on Tuesday.
The last two seasons have been disappointing as the offense took a bit of a slide after shattering records in 2023. Hitting coach Tim Hyers did his best to try to correct course in 2025, but it didn't work out.
However, Hyers' work with the offense finally seems to be paying off as the Braves are one of the most dangerous lineups in the game. Atlanta leads all of baseball in batting average (.273), slugging percentage (.464), OPS (.802), hits (349), and RBI (207). They have the second-most home runs (55) in baseball as well.
The Braves are also crushing it with runners in scoring position. They have the best batting average with RISP at .297, the second-best in slugging (.475), and the third-best in OPS (.834). This is an impressive turnaround as they were not very good in this area over the last two years.
Braves' elite success with runners in scoring position is fueling their current run of dominance
There is one oddity within this great performance, and it's that the team only has eight home runs with runners in scoring position. However, it matches the change in philosophy that manager Walt Weiss mentioned ahead of the season. He wanted the team to focus on situational hitting more and not on scoring runs via home runs. Hitting homers can be helpful when the team is hitting a lot of them, but it's not a sustainable strategy.
Atlanta finished the 2025 season with a .253 average with RISP, including 43 homers and 502 RBI. The turnaround truly is astonishing to witness. But it's very encouraging and exactly what this team should be doing. The roster is too talented not to perform at an elite level.
Matt Olson has been a big part of this offensive explosion as well. He leads the National League in home runs (13), RBI (33), runs (35), slugging percentage (.685), and OPS (1.077). But he isn't alone, as there are four Braves hitters with a .300 average or better. This includes Olson, Ozzie Albies, Michael Harris II, and Drake Baldwin. It's amazing to witness this turnaround, and it feels like this team is destined for the postseason. There is a long way to go, but it's been a lot of fun to watch.
