It took just one month for the Atlanta Braves to ascend to the top spot in MLB.com’s power rankings. After compiling the best record in baseball and building the largest division lead in the league, Atlanta has firmly established itself as the team to beat. The Braves had been a consistent presence in the top five throughout their strong start, but it was a decisive sweep in Colorado that propelled them past both the Dodgers and Yankees to claim the No. 1 ranking.

At 25–11, the Braves have every reason to feel confident in how they measure up against the game’s elite. That standing will be put to the test this weekend, when Atlanta travels to Los Angeles for a marquee matchup against the powerhouse Dodgers that will feature multiple MVP candidates. Regardless of the outcome, the Braves have created significant separation, leaving their NL East rivals with considerable ground to make up before approaching Atlanta’s position in the power rankings.

Braves top MLB power rankings, while their NL East rivals continue to slip

The disparity at the top of the NL East is evident not only in the standings, but in the power rankings as well. While the Braves occupy the No. 1 spot, the next closest division contender—the second-place Marlins—check in at No. 19, underscoring the significant gap between Atlanta and the rest of the field.

Braves fans can take added satisfaction in the fact that every other NL East club falls within the bottom third of the rankings, with the Mets ranking the worst at No. 29 overall. The consensus among evaluators is clear: Atlanta’s divisional rivals still have considerable ground to cover before they can be mentioned alongside the Braves.

That said, the Braves themselves overcame a comparable divisional deficit against the Mets in 2022, underscoring that sustained success requires continued focus. Atlanta dropped a tightly contested one-run game to the Mariners on Monday night, but Tuesday presents an opportunity to begin a new winning streak and further validate its position atop the power rankings.
