Braves' next step is crystal clear following the loss of two Atlanta icons

The Atlanta Braves will almost definitely honor the legacies of Bobby Cox and Ted Turner on their uniforms.

Just days after legendary Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner passed away, Atlanta had to mourn the loss of another icon when the Braves announced that longtime manager Bobby Cox had passed away.

The Braves have been on the road since the passing of Turner, but it seems like only a matter of time before the club reveals an obvious tribute to two legendary Braves.

Braves memorial patches for Ted Turner, Bobby Cox seem like a no-brainer

This isn't the first time the Braves have lost two icons within a short span. At the end of 2020, Hall of Fame knuckleballer Phil Niekro passed away. Less than a month later, the former home run king Henry "Hank" Aaron passed away, just two weeks before his 87th birthday.

To honor the two Hall of Famers, Atlanta had two patches sewed onto the back of their caps, which they wore for the entire 2021 season through the end of the playoffs that resulted in their fourth World Series championship.

The decision to wear their numbers on their cap, instead of a patch on the jersey likely stemmed from the fact that the club was wearing a 150th anniversary patch on one sleeve, and an All-Star Game patch on the other, the latter only survived a few games before the All-Star Game was moved from Atlanta.

This season, the only patch the Braves are wearing on their sleeves is an advertising patch that isn't going away any time soon, leaving the club with a full sleeve to honor two men who shaped the entire franchise. Going further back, the Braves had a dual patch for Johnny Sain and Lew Burdette, who both passed away prior to the 2007 season, but conveniently both wore number 33.

In 2008, the Braves wore two different patches for Jim Beauchamp, a longtime coach for the Braves organization, and legendary broadcaster Skip Caray, and wore them on opposite sleeves, Beauchamp passed away before the season, however, while Caray passed away midseason.

What exactly that dual patch will look like is hard to say, but there's no doubt the club is going to find a way to honor both Turner and Cox for the remainder of the season on their jerseys.
