This week has already been tough for Atlanta Braves fans. Less than optimal results on the field aside, the Braves also lost former owner Ted Turner after a long suffering from Lewy body dementia. Unfortunately, that is not where the bad news ended, and the most recent case is absolutely heartbreaking.
Every Braves fan knows who Bobby Cox is. The long-time Braves manager oversaw an unparalleled run of NL East dominance in the 1990's and early 2000's. He was also in the skipper's chair when Atlanta finally broke through again and won the 1995 World Series. Known for his no-nonsense demeanor and willingness to get tossed from games, Cox is a legend in Braves Country and always will be.
Sadly, we can't hope Bobby will make more appearances at Truist Park anymore. On Saturday, news got out that Cox had passed away at the age of 84.

Braves lose another legend as Bobby Cox has passed away at 84
This just hurts. While some may have some quibbles with Cox's in-game decision-making over the years, there is no denying that he was a special manager that could handle a clubhouse as well as anyone. Even when players got on his bad side for a lack of effort or a mistake, they still wanted to run through a wall for him. For a total of 25 seasons, Cox was the real face of the Braves and it just doesn't feel right that he is gone.
Cox has experienced health challenges in recent years. In 2019, he suffered a stroke that made it difficult for him to get around and communicate, though he continue to be mentally sharp and followed the Braves closely. The next year, Cox was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and when the Braves hosted the All-Star Game in 2025, Cox was unable to attend due to ongoing health issues.
In times like this, it is easy to worry that our connections to the Braves' past are being forcefully severed right in front of our eyes. However, hopefully all Braves fans take the losses of Bobby and Ted as an opportunity to reflect and celebrate that past and make sure it lives on long after these Atlanta icons are gone. Our thoughts go out to Cox's family and friends today as well as all Braves fans.
Goodbye, skip. You are already sorely missed.
