While the Atlanta Braves are not taking part in the 2025 playoffs, that doesn't mean things have been completely quiet in Braves Country. There is plenty of Ha-Seong Kim chatter at the moment and there are arbitration projections and the impending non-tender deadline to consider in addition to the usual free agent and trade rumors.
With that in mind, here are some of the Braves news items that you may have missed over the last couple of days.
Braves News: Atlanta re-signs catcher Sandy Leon...or maybe not?
Sandy Leon was an important part of the Braves' catching depth in 2025 as he was an experienced backstop that could help shepherd Drake Baldwin early on. When Leon declared for free agency, there was some expectation that a reunion between Atlanta and Leon could still happen given the familiarity with each other.
Initially, it was reported on Wednesday night that Leon had indeed signed a minor league deal with the Braves yet again. However, that report based on the MLB transactions page was retracted a couple hours later and it was clarified that Leon is, in fact, still a free agent. Don't be surprised if it ends up eventually being true, though.
Braves News: Director of pitching development Paul Davis fired
There is a real chance that the Braves' coaching staff could see big changes in the wake of Brian Snitker's retirement as the new manager may want to install their own people and assistant coaches may want to pursue new opportunities. While it doesn't sound like the Braves are going to be forcing any coaching changes just yet, they are making a change in their player development department.
The #Braves aren't expected to make mass coaching changes in player development/farm system, but have let go director of pitching development Paul Davis, 61. Good rep, hard worker, helped develop many young arms to debut recently w/ ATL. I heard they just wanted to make a change.

Paul Davis is out as the director of pitching development which is a somewhat odd choice given that the Braves have had more success developing pitchers than hitters in recent years. However, getting a new voice in the pitching lab could lessen the number of pitching busts in the farm system which has not been a small number. Keep an eye out, because more changes like this one could be coming.
Braves News: Division rival Phillies eliminated from playoffs in hysterical fashion
In lighter news, the Phillies have been eliminated from the playoffs and their suffering is delightful. While it is unfortunate that their elimination does mean that the Dodgers advance which is not ideal, but we'll take what we can get here.
However, what was even wilder is how the Phillies got eliminated. In extra innings, Phillies reliever Orion Kerkering, who probably shouldn't be pitching in high leverage, made a ghastly throwing error with the bases loaded that allowed the walk-off run to score. Would probably be a good idea if Kerkering just didn't take the flight back to Philadelphia after that one.
