Thanks to the numerous extensions Alex Anthopoulos has made over the years, the Atlanta Braves offense entered the 2025-2026 offseason only needing a shortstop, and that need was fulfilled when the club re-signed Ha-Seong Kim in mid-December. The team was also proactive and added another outfielder, Mike Yastrzemski to give the team depth at DH and across the outfield.
With two months remaining before spring training, the Braves are certainly far from done with their offseason.
Reviewing the state of the Braves' bench as of now
Catcher
Depending on Sean Murphy's health, the Braves catching tandem should be set, alongside 2025 NL Rookie of the Year Drake Baldwin. If Murphy does need to miss some time to start the season as he recovers from the hip surgery that ended his 2025, the team does have a few backup options.
While Baldwin and Murphy are the only catchers on the 40-man roster, the Braves reunited Chadwick Tromp and Sandy León this offseason on minor league deals, and have Jair Camargo, who made five appearances for the Minnesota Twins in 2024, in Gwinnett as well.
It wouldn't be shocking to see the Braves add another catcher to the mix, but unless Murphy's injury is more severe than we're currently being told, the team will likely be satisfied using Tromp or León to start the season if needed.
Infield
When the Braves re-signing Ha-Seong Kim, they were also able to check off utility infielder off their needs. Mauricio Dubón has played every position except for catcher and pitcher in his MLB career, and made at least 15 starts at second base, shortstop, and third base last season.
In addition to Dubón, the Braves also have Vidal Bruján, Brett Wisely, and Nacho Alvarez Jr. rostered, with Alvarez Jr. still having options. The Braves likely have one more roster spot for an additional infielder on their Opening Day roster, and Bruján and Wisely will have the inside track, as they already have a 40-man roster spot and have no options remaining.
As of now, the only other infielder the Braves have signed with MLB experience this offseason is Aaron Schunk, who has 126 career MLB games under his belt, and who joined the team on a MiLB deal.
Outfield
Between Mike Yastrzemski and Eli White, Atlanta is likely set with their outfield needs. Both outfielders have played all three outfield positions regularly. Yastrzemski will likely be in the starting lineup against right-handed pitching, either in left field, right field, or DH.
Vidal Bruján and Mauricio Dubón also have plenty of outfield experience if any outfielder gets injured. Atlanta has also signed Ben Gamel and Brewer Hicklen to minor league deals, offering the Braves more than enough depth in the outfield.
