While fans wait for the Atlanta Braves to make an impact move, the team continues to add to its depth ahead of next season. Atlanta claimed two pitchers from the Orioles two days ago, and their next depth move brought back a familiar face.
Chadwick Tromp finds himself back with the Braves on a minor league deal. He announced his return on X with a photo from his time in Atlanta. It's no secret that Tromp loved his time with the Braves.

The former backup catcher returns to help Atlanta build depth, whihc should help given that Sean Murphy's recovery timeline from surgery on his hip is still unclear.

NL Rookie of the Year Drake Baldwin proved he could handle starting duties and could easily do so in 2026. Tromp could begin the season as a backup if Murphy's return from surgery is delayed.
Tromp began 2025 with the Braves but was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett in early April. He instead elected free agency and signed with Baltimore shortly after. He appeared in six games with the O's last year, with a .188 average over 16 at-bats. Tromp was eventually outrighted to Triple-A, but he again elected free agency and signed with the Red Sox in July. He appeared in 28 games at Triple-A Worcester to end his 2025 campaign.
This is what led him to elect free agency at the end of the season and return to the Braves.
Tromp owns a .221/.230/.390 line in 178 major league plate appearances with six home runs, 23 RBI, and a lowly 63 wRC+.
Tromp's value is more on the quality of his defense and that is what Atlanta likelyused as their reason to bring him back. He's also a great teammate. Tromp won't see a lot of playing time unless something happens to Murphy or Baldwin, but having a backup plan in place that they are familiar with makes all the sense in the world. As fans learned in 2025, depth is incredibly important, and Tromp provides a great depth option.
