There is plenty of blame to go around for Braves' brutal June swoon

It was a bad June for almost every Braves hitter

The Atlanta Braves' performance in June was one to forget. After beginning the month 5-1, the team went 4-12 over the final 16 games thanks to some putrid offensive performances. The Braves finished the month with the fewest runs scored, 10 fewer runs than the second-worst team.

Unsurprisingly, this meant that several Braves players had horrible months. In fact, six Braves position players now top an undesirable leaderboard in the franchise's history.

Braves missed the mark in June in just about every way

A lot has been made of the Braves lack of starting pitching, but the offensive struggles in June indicate the Braves could have had five All-Stars in their rotation and it wouldn't have made a difference in June.

Matt Olson and Mauricio Dubón were the only two Braves hitters with a wRC+ above 100 last month. Olson had a 135 wRC+, while Dubón had a 141 wRC+. Ozzie Albies was the only other player with an OPS over .700, although Michael Harris II was close behind at .692.

After these four Braves, the production from their hitters cratered. Eli White was the only other Brave with an OPS above .600 for the month, and his .610 OPS equated to a 68 wRC+, well below league-average.

Ha-Seong Kim's .192 OPS was the lowest by a Braves player in the month of June in franchise history. The previous low mark was .201 set by Frank O'Rourke in 1912.

Drake Baldwin was not far behind that, as he wrapped June up with a .225 OPS in 50 plate appearances. Baldwin had two hits in his first games back from the injured list, and then went nine straight games without a hit. His .225 OPS was the fourth-worst OPS by a Braves hitter in June.

Jorge Mateo's .354 OPS last month was the 27th-lowest, and Mike Yastrzemski, Dominic Smith, and Austin Riley all finished within the top-200 for worst Junes by a Braves hitter, all having an OPS under .540.

While Kim and Baldwin's struggle certainly stole the spotlight last month, the entire team's struggle is to blame for such a woeful overall performance. Their lack of offense against mediocre starting pitching especially is the reason their 9.5 game lead shrunk to 2.5 in just 17 games.

Hopefully, with the calendar month turning over, the Braves struggles offensively turns over as well.
