One of the spots the Atlanta Braves have to fill this offseason is at designated hitter. Marcell Ozuna has filled that void for the last few years. It was a tumultuous tenure, but he was good for most of that time. Eventually, he became a clubhouse leader and helped his teammates when they struggled at the plate. Ozuna did a ton of work to win back their trust, so if there's any hope of him returning, it's because of that.
Ozuna struggled heavily in 2025 with a .232 average over 145 games, including 21 home runs and 68 RBI. This was one of his worst seasons in Atlanta. Fans were able to experience some of his best and worst performances over the years.
However, after the big struggles in a contract year, he could be on his way to a different team.
Bleacher Report thinks the Mets could land Marcell Ozuna, but Braves fans shouldn't be worried
A recent offseason prediction released by Bleacher Report has Ozuna playing elsewhere in 2026. They seem to believe that Ozuna, who will be 35 next season, will sign with the New York Mets on a one-year deal.
Starling Marte is New York's current DH, and he hits free agency this year as well. Ozuna could be a replacement for his fellow countryman. Marte is a bit faster than Ozuna on the bases, but the latter is much more patient at the plate.
If the Mets do sign Ozuna, it won't be the end of the world. He's getting older and seems to be in decline at the plate if his 2025 production is any indication. It feels like he has an even better chance to land in New York if Pete Alonso doesn't return.
The Braves could very well bring him back for similar reasons, if the cost is right. However, there are too many areas to address, and there are internal options that could easily fill the DH role. Bleacher Report seems to believe a one-year, $13 million deal would make sense for the three-time All-Star.
