New top prospect, names on move in MLB's latest Braves Top 30 update
Atlanta's Top 30 prospects list was updated by MLB earlier this week.
This past Tuesday, it was announced that MLB Pipeline had updated the Top 30 prospect rankings for every team, which resulted in many different changes to those lists.
In all, the Braves saw a new No. 1 prospect sit atop the farm system, as well as numerous names both rise and fall throughout the Top 30, with some even making their debuts. Alongside that, Atlanta was not represented in the Top 100 overall prospects list, but do have one-to-two names who could join that group in the very near future.
As for the Braves new Top 30 list in particular, let's take a look at some of the most notable changes, beginning with the organization's newest No. 1 prospect.
Cam Caminiti becomes Atlanta Braves new top prospect in MLB Top 30 update
Selected by Atlanta with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, it did not take long for Caminiti to become the top overall prospect in the Braves organization. Considered one of, if not the, top high school pitchers in the class, the left-hander has yet to make his professional debut, but could happen before the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Drake Baldwin joins the Top 5
In the middle of a season that has him knocking on the door of the big leagues, Baldwin, the Braves top catching prospect, rose up to the No. 5 spot from No. 10. Baldwin currently boats a .773 OPS with 11 HR and 65 RBI on the year, which includes a .309/.433/.479 slash line with a 32:36 K:BB ratio over 43 games in Triple-A Gwinnett.
The rise of Didier Fuentes
One of the biggest risers in this update was Fuentes, who now sits at the Braves No. 20 prospect. The right-hander is currently enjoying a strong year in Low-A Augusta, owning a 2.85 ERA and 94:21 K:BB ratio across 72.2 IP, while also limiting opponents to a combined .204 AVG against.
5 other draft picks included in Top 30
Lastly, in addition to the aforementioned Caminiti, a few other Atlanta Braves 2024 draft picks were also included in the Top 30 in Carter Holton (12), Nick Montgomery (22), Luke Sinnard (23), Ethan Bagwell (24), and Herick Hernandez (29).
