MLB The Show 24 just dropped a teaser featuring one of its new features, and they made an embarrassing mistake doing so, omitting the best player in Major League Baseball.
Outfield victory celebrations after wins have been a mainstay for MLB teams for years now, and MLB The Show, the biggest MLB video game on the market, is finally joining the party. On Wednesday, they released a video showing off the new team celebration animations.
The very first celebration the game showed off was the Braves, with Michael Harris II leading the outfielders in celebration. There was just one problem: someone was missing, and fans were very quick to notice.
New video game somehow leaves out the best player on the planet
Somehow, in addition to being snubbed for the 2024 cover, the franchise forgot that Ronald Acuña Jr, the 2024 NL MVP, was the Braves RF. Instead of appearing with Jarred Kelenic and Michael Harris II in the celebration animation, the Braves superstar is replaced by Jordan Luplow, who is not even on the team's 40-man roster.
But that wasn't the only mistake the game made. In addition to inexplicably omitting the best player in baseball, they also forgot that a certain number worn by one of the greatest Braves in franchise history is off-limits.
The Show gives new Braves LF a retired number
Kelenic, who wore #10 with the Mariners, is depicted as wearing that same number with the Braves. Obviously, that number is retired for Chipper Jones. Kelenic is wearing #24 instead this year.
And last but not least, where's Blooper? The animation only shows the three Braves outfielders, not including the Braves mascot, who has joined the outfielders in their victory formations for seasons now.
The Show forgetting one GOAT is unforgivable as is, and somehow they managed to leave out two GOATs.
MLB The Show doesn't come out for a few weeks. Hopefully they've cleaned up their mistakes by then. If not, Braves fans might need to boycott.
