Thanks to a stellar bullpen game from the Atlanta Braves' relief corps and a burst of power from Eddie Rosario and Matt Olson, the Braves were able to stake a signficant lead early and ultimately prevail by the score of 6-1.
In an effort to line up their starters the way they want to heading into the start of the season later this week, the Braves went with a bullpen game on Monday. Through the first six innings, Jesse Chavez, Dylan Lee, Collin McHugh, Nick Anderson, Lucas Luetge, and Joe Jimenez each threw scoreless innings of relief. Not too shabby from the bullpen guys and a good sign going into the season.
As for the Braves offense through the first 2/3 of the game or so, they stayed busy. It started in the bottom of the second inning. After Michael Harris II hit one of the easiest stand up triples you will ever see and Ozzie Albies drew a walk, Eddie Rosario launched a three run homer to give the Braves and early 3-0 lead.
The bottom of the third inning was more of the same as Ronald Acuna Jr. led the inning off with a walk and then Matt Olson continued his scorching spring with his eighth home run of spring training to make it 5-0. Sean Murphy would add a solo shot, his first of the spring, to make it 6-0 and things were looking good.
The eighth inning went a little sideways for Luis De Avila as he hit a batter with the bases loaded and two out to bring in a run for Boston and bring an end to the shutout. Fortunately, Alec Barger came into the game and got the last out before any more damage could be done.
After that, things settled down and Barger was able to get the final three outs without any difficulty.
Upcoming Braves Schedule
