Answer: Mike Hampton

Mike Hampton began his MLB career with the Seattle Mariners in 1993 at the young age of 20. Hampton established himself as a successful starting hurler with the Houston Astros and came to the Atlanta Braves in 2003.

During his time with the Braves, Hampton posted a 35-24 record with a 4.10 ERA. He struck out only 262 batters in a total of 509.2 innings in an Atlanta uniform. Needless to say, Mike Hampton was known for his control and not overpowering stuff.

Perhaps the most impressive statistic of Hampton’s time in Atlanta was that he hit a total of five home runs. For those new baseball fans, there was a time when pitchers had to hit in the National League and it typically wasn’t pretty. Hampton was the exception to that stigma and was not an easy out for opponents.
