Former Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Adams announces retirement
While likely remembered most for his time with the St. Louis Cardinals organization, Adams spent a total of two seasons with the Braves as mentioned previously, the first of which came back in 2017.
In 2017, Adams was traded to Atlanta by the Cardinals where he would go on to appear in 100 games for the Braves that season. Over that span, Adams slashed a combined .271/.315/.543 with an .858 OPS, 19 HR, 20 2B, and 58 RBI prior to entering free agency at the conclusion of the 2017 season.
Adams would then remain away from the Braves organization until the 2020 season, which is where he returned to Atlanta on a minor league deal during the shortened campaign. The veteran slugger would appear in 16 games with the Braves that season prior to being released, slashing a combined .184/.216/.347 with a .563 OPS, two HR, two 2B, and nine RBI.
Over his time in Atlanta overall, Adams posted a combined slash line of .259/.301/.515 with an .816 OPS, 21 HR, 22 2B, and 67 RBI across 116 games. Adams also saw time defensively at both first base and left field, as well as acting solely as the Braves designated hitter in 2020.
As mentioned previously, Adams will most likely be remembered most for his time with the Cardinals, but there is still no denying that the slugger certainly made an impact while a member of the Braves, especially during the 2017 season.
