In an ideal world, the Atlanta Braves would be playing an early game today so that they have plenty of time to catch their flight to head back home for a series against the Rockies. Unfortunately, last night's game was rained out, so instead they have to play a doubleheader today before they head out of town.
Last night's scheduled starter, Spencer Strider, will be getting the start for game one while Dylan Dodd gets another big league start as the Braves' 27th man for the second game of the set. Hopefully these are a couple of quick, breezy games so the Braves can leave on a high note.
Braves vs. Tigers Pitching Matchups
For game one, the Braves are sending Spencer Strider to the mound who looked decidedly not like his usual self his last time on the mound. It is going to be worth keeping an eye on his velocity and stuff today just to see if there are any lingering problems especially after he has had his schedule messed up and he had to warm up last night. The Tigers will be sending Reese Olson to the mound to make his second big league start. Olson has been good so far for Detroit with a pair of five inning outings (one in "relief") where he gave up two and one run respectively.
Dylan Dodd heads to the mound for game two as he was Atlanta's 27th man for the doubleheader. AJ Smith-Shawver was on schedule to make a start, but this does allow Atlanta to push starters a game without any roster tomfoolery. Michael Lorenzen gets the nod for Detroit in game two and the Braves actually have a little bit of experience against him from his time with the Reds. Orlando Arcia and Sean Murphy have had some success against him in a larger sample of at-bats with Arcia being particularly good against him with a pair of homers.
