The Atlanta Braves are in the middle of a rough patch right now. They just got swept by the Marlins and then Kyle Wright struggled in the Braves' loss to the Phillies last night. While the Braves were still able to clinch home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs, it hasn't made this stretch of blah Braves baseball feel any less crummy.
Credit to the Braves for trying to figure things out, at least. They shuffled their pitching staff around with a series of moves to bring Dereck Rodriguez up for a cameo appearance before ultimately designating him for assignment to give Lucas Luetge a try.
More Braves News
We can probably expect more Braves roster moves over the last couple weeks of the season as the team gives rest to some key arms and try to figure out who Atlanta could use for their last few playoff roster spots. There is certainly good reason for on-the-fly experimentation ahead of the postseason because the Braves' pitching staff has had a pretty rough September.
On a happier note, there is a look back at Ronald Acuna Jr.'s grand slam in the NLDS against the Dodgers in 2018 up on the site as well. Gotta love when an umpire gives an opposing pitcher an absolute gift of a call and then said pitcher immediately regrets having to throw that pitch.
MLB News
Elsewhere in the league, the Cardinals finally succeeded in getting Adam Wainwright his 200th win as they took care of business against the Brewers. Sure, the accomplishment is somewhat cheapened by the fact that St. Louis was running Waino out there to have him get annihilated for most of the season, but it is still a lofty career milestone worth celebrating nonetheless.
The 2023 MLB playoff bracket seems to also be solidifying a bit with the Braves and Dodgers clinching, the AL wild card teams all but confirmed, and the Twins and Brewes close to wrapping up their division races.
