Braves fans finally get to see first round pick in action with latest minor league news
The Braves made quite a few minor league promotions this afternoon, including assigning their 2024 first round pick to his first pro ball team.
The Atlanta Braves 2024 draft class is finding their footing within the organization with the lastest news of roster moves. This afternoon the Braves Low-A affiliate the Augusta GreenJackets announced the arrival of four different pitchers. This includes the top two picks from this year's draft class.
While some of the '24 draft class has already seen action, Augusta will get a look at the top guys from the class over the remainder of this season. This is headlined by 24th overall pick, 17 year-old lefty Cam Caminiti.
Braves first round pick assigned to Augusta
This will be the first taste of pro ball for Caminiti. Hopefully, he will spend the rest of the season learning the ropes of what it takes play baseball at a pro level. Should Caminiti impress, there's an outside chance he gets a look with Rome in 2025.
We know how aggressive the Braves can be with their promotions, so if the kid is pitching well expect a fast track through the system. Still at 17 years-old we're likely at least a few years away from seeing the 2024 first round pick in Atlanta.
Drue Hackenberg inches closer to Atlanta
Elsewhere the Braves made their late season rounds with a few other promotions. Most notably, Drue Hackenberg being promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett. The Braves 10th ranked prospect started nine games with Double-A Mississippi this season.
Hackenberg racked up 64 strikeouts in 46 innings with Mississippi this season. He also held a 3.13 ERA while in Double-A. The 22 year-old right-hander has ascended quickly through the ranks after being drafted in the second round in the 2023 MLB draft.
This promotion allows Hackenberg to get his feet wet with the Stripers in hopes he can begin the 2025 season in Triple-A pushing to make his debut.
