One New York radio host is making waves for all the wrong reasons once again. Sal Licata (a WFAN and SNY personality) became infamous in both Mets and Braves circles for foolishly predicting the NL East to be over in late May of 2022. As we all know, the Braves would eventually erase the 10.5 game lead the Mets held and win their 5th consecutive NL East title.
Funny enough, it seems Sal is at it again. Apparently, Licata didn't learn his lesson because now he's predicting the NL Wild Card race to be over in 2024. After the Mets handed the Braves their six straight defeat on Friday night and overtook Atlanta for the top NL Wild Card spot, Licata made yet another premature statement.
Mets radio host goes overboard once again
Baseball is already a funny game with jinxes, but it's clear both fanbases think Sal is hurting another Mets season. All you have to do is check the replies and you'll see how sour Mets fans over this tweet. Flashbacks keep coming in as the Braves have promptly righted the ship over the last two games.
Atlanta got a couple of much needed wins over the weekend and quickly regained control of the top NL Wild Card spot. Time will tell what direction the Mets go from here, but should they fall out of the postseason picture it's certain many New Yorkers will blame Sal once again.
It's only a couple of losses for the Mets, but that didn't stop fans from jumping on the New York radio host for even putting that statement out into the open. Famous Mets fan Frank the Tank Fleming had a very on brand NSFW rant on Licata choosing to crown the Mets early.
We know how determined the 2022 Braves were to catch the Mets, so hopefully Licata can fuel the 2024 Braves to some inspired baseball down the stretch.
