If you were to survey Braves fans right now, you may come to the conclusion that the sky is falling. It's been a rash of injuries lately for Atlanta (sadly the theme of 2024), and the play on the field hasn't left many fans inspired.
Many are hopeful reinforcements are coming via Alex Anthopoulos working behind the scenes at the trade deadline. However, with the talent pool of available help pretty low, fans are hoping for some of Atlanta's stars to get healthy and push the team late in the season.
One of the key players Atlanta is banking on providing a late season spark is star centerfielder Michael Harris II. Money Mike has been out of the lineup since mid June when he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Sadly, the latest update on Harris' injury isn't a positive one.
Harris suffers setback while rehabbing from injury
MH2 was transferred to the 60-day IL just a couple of days ago, but many thought it was a precautionary move to make room on the 40-man roster. Given that Harris wasn't expected to comeback before his eligible date of August 14, the fire alarm wasn't really going off in Braves country.
However, yesterday Justin Toscano of the AJC reported that Harris felt something in his hamstring at one point during his build-up. The Braves then decided to back Harris' progress off for a bit, and likely means an August return is now a very slim possibility.
It's certainly not the news Braves fans wanted to hear given the current sour mood throughout the fanbase right now. However, much like Sean Murphy's injury, hamstrings are a very delicate injury to work back from so a prolonged rehab process isn't much of a surprise.
Let's hope things turn around soon, because the vibes honestly couldn't be lower for this team right now.
