On an Atlanta Braves team that is filled with guys that play with a lot of energy and emotion, Michael Harris II still stands out. He is always running around like his hair is on fire with a smile on his face and telling jokes which fits right in with this squad. However, Harris also grew up a Braves fan which means he hates their rivals as much or more than anyone and he isn't afraid to say so.
After a slow start to the 2025 season, Harris II is showing signs of breaking out of his malaise and is clearly feeling himself. Not only did he tie the game on Thursday in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, but he also found time to roast Phillies fans during a video board segment at Truist Park.
Michael Harris II roasts Philly fans before playing hero for Braves again
Look, if you can't laugh at this, you have to be a Phillies fan because this was a good one and also probably true given Philly sports fans' reputation. Harris II knows his audience very well and growing up a Braves fan has ingrained in him a dislike for the Phillies and Mets that is frankly impressive. It was all in good fun obviously, but Harris II knew exactly what response he would get from that answer and the crowd gave it to him.
More importantly, Harris II seems to rounding into form finally. Not dissimilarly to 2023 when Harris started the season glacially slow before heating up in late May, it has taken him quite a while to get going this season. However, he now has played a prominent role in two late inning comebacks for the Braves this week and is hitting the ball with more authority.
Given that Harris II is a guy who doesn't really draw walks and has a tendency to chase pitches, he is going to be a guy that will be extremely frustrating for stretches. However, Harris II is also one of the most talented players on the Braves' roster and he wants to embarrass the opposition even more than fans do.
