Not many first-year Atlanta Braves have captured the love of the fanbase quite like Mauricio Dubón has in 2026. Dubón was acquired in an under-the-radar November trade, as Alex Anthopoulos looked to bolster the team's bench. However, because of Ha-Seong Kim's offseason injury, Dubón was pressed into action early, and he's been delivering most impressively ever since.

Dubón homered in his third straight game on Friday night, and his recent offensive hot streak has made it nearly impossible for manager Walt Weiss to take him out of the lineup. Dubón is posting offensive career highs across the board, with his 107 wRC+ being above the league average 100 wRC+ threshold for the first time in his big league career.

To go along with his newfound offensive ceiling, Dubon has brought his usual Gold Glove defensive versatility over from Houston. His work has been so impressive, and it's a big reason why the Braves have the best record in baseball. However, it raises the question: can he keep it up throughout the season?

Mauricio Dubón's breakout 2026 season is captivating Braves' fans and we hope it never ends

Dubón's single-season high in fWAR is 2.2, which he set last year with the Astros. Through 60 games in 2026, Dubón has already amassed 1.4 fWAR. As expected, Dubón once again ranks in the 98th percentile in Outs Above Average (7 OAA in 2026). What we did not expect was the otherworldly clutch gene Dubón has shown at the plate.

With runners in scoring position in 2026, Dubón has a 1.036 OPS. Similarly, Dubón's slash line in high-leverage situations is .417/.481/.750 accompanied by an absurd 240 wRC+. What many do not realize is that this is exactly what Dubón has done throughout his career.

During his eight-year big league career, Dubón sports a 117 wRC+ in high-leverage situations, compared to an 88 wRC+ in medium-leverage situations and an 80 wRC+ in low-leverage situations. The key difference is that Dubón is getting more opportunities to produce in those high-leverage situations this season.

Matt Olson, Drake Baldwin, and so many others have done a great job at creating run-scoring opportunities for the bottom half of the lineup. Dubón has been THE best hitter in Atlanta's lineup at capitalizing on these RISP chances. So to answer the initial question, yes, Dubon can keep this up throughout the season. So long as the Braves' stars keep getting on-base, we have no reason to believe the most clutch utility man in baseball won't continue to come through.
