Apparently what the Atlanta Braves needed to end their skid was for the Mets to come to town. Thanks to an offense that has finally woken up again courtesy of some 2026 All-Stars (as well as some guys who missed out), strong pitching, and some of the worst Mets defense you will ever see, Atlanta has taken the first two games of the series. Unfortunately, some rain in the area is interrupting their quest for a third.
On paper, Atlanta starter Martin Perez taking on New York rookie Nolan McLean is pretty spooky, given how good McLean can be. It doesn't help matters that Perez has shown signs in his last couple of starts that the fountain of youth he had been using is starting to run dry. However, there are a lot of scattered storms in the area and that has forced this game to officially enter a delay.
**UPDATE: 12:52 PM EST**
For those that are wondering why this game has been delayed despite the radar not looking "that bad", the boots on the ground say otherwise. According to Braves beat writer Mark Bowman, the weather at Truist is not ideal whatsoever.
The rain has returned and it's pretty heavy. It was smart to delay the start of this game

Braves vs. Mets Rain Delay, 7/5/26: When will the game start?
So this is a weird one, because the weather is truly scattered this afternoon in the Atlanta area. The powers that be are going to have their hands full in predicting when storms are going to blink in and out of existence. That said, this is a delay that probably won't last too long. However, what is currently unclear is whether or not either starter had begun warmups to the point where they might get burned from this delay. If there is one thing neither team wants right now, it is an impromptu bullpen game, although it is hard to envision the Braves not running Perez out there either way.
We will keep this post updated with all of the most up-to-date information on the delay, including any announced start times. Given the weather pattern, guessing when we will get baseball today is tough, but this shouldn't be too bad of a delay.
