The Atlanta Braves have a nice stockpile of talent at the minor league level. Fans have gotten a nice look at a few of them over the last couple of years. There are a few who may have a major impact on the MLB roster in the near future.
As many would have expected, the Braves have some great pitching prospects working their way up. Atlanta's top prospect Cam Caminiti is one of those impressive pitchers in the waiting. Caminiti was the top pick in the 2025 draft and has a current MLB ETA of 2027. However, that seems a little early considering he is at High-A Rome currently.
After his most recent start for the Emperors, it's time for the Braves to give him a shot with Double-A Columbus. The young lefty entered his third game of the season on April 16th after Spencer Strider started the game for his first rehab game.
Cam Caminiti is trying to throw his hat into the ring as an option for the Braves soon
Caminiti was awesome over the final five innings of the game. It was a scoreless outing with just two hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts. He now has a 3.07 ERA over three games with two walks and 19 strikeouts over 14.2 innings.
It's time for him to take the next step and show the Braves just how close he is to being MLB-ready. Double-A is where a lot of pitchers refine themselves and show they can handle big league competition.
Caminiti fastball can touch 97 mph, but he sits around 93-94 on average. However, he has a good slider and changeup to help keep batters off the heater. He also has a curveball, but he's shelved it temporarily to focus on improving his slider.
The main thing Caminiti has needed to improve is his consistency with throwing strikes. It appears he is doing a much better job so far with his excellent walk-to-strikeout ratio. He's only 19 years old, so there is a lot left for him to learn.
However, a challenge at the next level would help Atlanta better evaluate exactly when he could make an impact on the big league roster. JR Ritchie has also made some incredible strides this year with Triple-A Gwinnett. Fans are more likely to see him with the Braves this season, and it just further proves how great Atlanta is at scouting talent.
