In nearly every conversation about Ronald Acuña Jr., there will be at least some controversy. For many, Acuña Jr. is one of the most talented players in baseball who has gotten a raw deal when it comes to injuries. For others, he is overrated and a guy who both doesn't "play the game the right way" and also will never stay on the field enough. The truth is likely somewhere in between, but that hasn't stopped some truly silly trade speculation.

Acuña Jr. hasn't helped his own case lately. Not only did he fail to help the Braves in the playoffs this year, but Acuña Jr. also made some eyebrow-raising comments about an unnamed former coach or teammate on his podcast and received renewed attention for his usual social media scrubbing and disconnection. Still, so much of what Acuña Jr. does gets magnified to ridiculous proportions, and this offseason appears to be no different.

Over the last few days, the idea of the Braves trading Acuña Jr. has popped up yet again via various sources. While such a trade isn't impossible, everyone needs to take a breath and understand where this speculation is actually coming from.

Personal agendas are running rampant with the latest Ronald Acuña Jr. trade rumors

Now, there is a world where trading Acuña Jr. would make sense. If early extension talks between the Braves and Acuña Jr.'s camp revealed an insurmountable gap AND there is a team that is willing to empty their farm system for two years of him, the Braves should listen. How ready the prospects they would get back, as well as their upside, would still matter, but Atlanta would be crazy not to at least answer the phone.

However, the odds that the Braves are looking to move Acuña Jr. are incredibly small, but that hasn't changed the reporting and speculation. Some executives out there are looking to sow discord and/or trying to turn the public in favor of the idea to put pressure on the Braves to talk. Not only does that not work with Alex Anthopoulos, but it also grossly mischaracterizes Acuña Jr.'s availability. Just because some teams are saying they will try to trade for Acuña Jr. does not make it any more likely.

Unfortunately, this is what the discourse has been reduced to when it comes to Acuña Jr. and his future. Those with their personal gripes with Acuña Jr. and/or those who want him for their teams will try to shift the conversation in a direction that benefits them. For now, the idea that the Braves will try to trade Acuña Jr. remains deeply silly, and don't let anyone try to change your minds until there are sourced reports that there is movement on the Braves' side.
