Prior to the Atlanta Braves doubleheader with the Washington Nationals, the club recalled two pitchers who made cameos in the early part of the 2025 season, sending off struggling arms Alexis Díaz and Connor Seabold to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Jose Suarez, the lefty acquired from the Angels at the very end of spring training will get the start in game one of the doubleheader, while Nathan Wiles will serve as a long relief option. To make room for Suarez on the 40-man roster, Sean Murphy was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Braves pitching shuffle continues as the 2025 season winds down

It would be forgiven if Braves fans forgot who Jose Suarez and Nathan Wiles were, let alone if they forgot that the two pitchers pitched for the Braves this season.

Suarez appeared in three games for the Braves back in April before being designated for assignment. While he had a 2.45 ERA in his 7.1 innings, but his peripherals were much uglier thanks this his 23.3% walk-rate. Suarez has a 3.50 ERA this year with the Stripers, pitching primarily as a starter.

This will be Wiles fourth time on the Braves big league club this season, but to date, the 27-year-old has only appeared in one MLB game, which came during his first callup. He allowed three runs in one inning his sole MLB outing, but has been far better with the Stripers, as he has a 3.04 ERA in 112.2 innings.

Alexis Díaz's disappointing trial run seemingly comes to an end, as the Braves optioned him along with Connor Seabold to make room for the pair of pitchers on the active roster. Díaz appeared in three games for the Braves and matched his 35.7% strikeout-rate with a 35.7% walk-rate. He kept the ball on the ground when batters did hit it into plat (literally a 100% ground ball rate), but still allowed three earned runs in 2.2 innings.

While the taking a flyer on a former All-Star was worth a chance, it seems like the Braves will not be the club that fixes Díaz.
