Much like last year, game one of the World Series delivered and then some. Two powerhouse organizations went back and forth all night, with superstars on both sides shining in different moments.
However, when it was all said and done the biggest mark was left by perhaps a future Atlanta Braves Hall of Famer. It took extra innings to set the stage, but eventually former Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman strolled to the plate with his Dodgers trailing the Yankees 3-2 and just one out remaining for New York to seal the victory.
Freeman delivers one of the most special moments in postseason baseball history
Despite playing this entire postseason with an injured ankle Freddie Freeman found a way to end this epic game in the most exciting way possible. With the bases loaded and two outs in the tenth inning Freeman blasted the first pitch he saw from Nestor Cortes deep into the L.A. night to give the Dodgers a 6-3 walk-off victory.
As the crowd went crazy Freeman slowly jogged around the bases and then celebrated with his teammates. Only baseball could deliver a moment so beautiful. Freeman spent a full decade at the Major League level before hitting his first career grand slam. Now, he's hit one with one of the biggest swings of his career.
Of course long-time baseball fans will see this Freeman homer and not be able to help but remember a hobbled Kirk Gibson's walk-off home run in game one of the 1988 World Series. A lot of fans have split opinions on Freeman ever since he signed with the Dodgers, but there's no doubt Freeman has gone through a lot this season.
Whether you're actively rooting for him to win another ring or not, as baseball fans we have to admit that was one of the coolest moments we've ever seen on a baseball diamond. And in the end we saw Freeman hugging it out with current Braves second baseman and his former teammate Ozzie Albies.
