When the dust settled after the 2025 MLB Draft, the Atlanta Braves spent most of their early picks on revamping their position player crop down in the minor leagues. Understandably, much of the attention went to Tate Southisene, given that he was their first-round pick and that the pick was such a departure from Atlanta's previous strategy in the first round. However, the player that had the best chance out of the gate to impact the Braves' big league roster reasonably quickly was shortstop Alex Lodise.
Drafted out of Florida State in the second round, Lodise was the reigning Dick Howser Award winner as the top collegiate baseball player, and the numbers were loud. While most didn't have Lodise as a guy that could go in the first round, he was highly regarded for his all-around skill set and high baseball IQ. Given that he was a college draft pick, it wasn't crazy to think that Lodise could move through the minor leagues quickly and help solve the Braves' shortstop woes in short order.
Well, while Lodise started off a bit slow and hasn't started to rocket through the minors just yet, it does seem as though the Braves' decision to pick him up was a wise one.

Braves prospect Alex Lodise has been on a rampage in the month of June while pressing his case for a promotion
At the end of May, Lodise's numbers at low-A Augusta were fine, but unexciting. His line sat at .250/.333/.399 with eight home runs, and while the walk rate helped, Lodise found himself getting overshadowed by other prospects on his own team like Luis Guanipa and the recently promoted Southisene, let alone other breakout Braves prospect stories at other levels of the minors.
Well, we are approaching the end of the month of June, and Lodise has changed the narrative considerably. Thanks to a stronger overall offensive game and impacting the ball beyond the occasional homer, Lodise has posted a line of .264/.378/.625 with six home runs and 17 RBI this month. That is big-time production, especially for a guy that is a mortal lock to stay at a premium position like shortstop.
At this point, the ideal move would be to challenge Lodise with a promotion, but there are a lot of moving pieces in the Braves' minor leagues at the moment, with Lodise, Southisene, John Gil, and Cody Miller, among others, fighting for playing time up the middle in the infield. However, the first half is coming to an end, and the trade deadline is going to see some departures due to trades. The time is coming for another wave of promotions in the minors very soon, so don't be surprised if Lodise is among them.
