With the MLB All-Star Game just a month away, Major League Baseball just released the first update on how the voting has been going. Unsurprisingly, the Atlanta Braves are getting plenty of love on the ballot in the National League.

However, there is certainly some surprise when it comes to which Braves are leading their respective positions, and which players trail in the voting.

MLB All-Star Game voting updates have fans scratching their heads

The Braves have two players who lead their position in voting through the first two weeks of voting, with Drake Baldwin's 972,813 votes giving him a comfortable 310,000 vote lead at catcher, and Ozzie Albies's 517,147 votes leading second basement by over 100,000.

Both of these can be seen as surprises. While Baldwin was clearly the best NL catcher before he went down with an oblique injury, he has missed nearly a month. Still, the 2025 NL Rookie of the Year still leads all NL catchers in fWAR, and with his return from the IL imminent, it would be shocking if he lost this lead.

Albies lead is somewhat shocking, especially considering how good National League second basemen have been in 2026. Albies ranks sixth among second basemen in fWAR, trailing JJ Wetherholt of the Cardinals, Luis Arraez of the Giants, Brice Turang of the Brewers, Xavier Edwards of the Marlins, and Brandon Lowe of the Pirates. However, Albies might have the advantage in name recognition, and with five other second baseman from smaller market teams having comparable seasons, Albies might have split the vote.

Ronald Acuña Jr. is second among outfielders with 693,472 votes, while Michael Harris II is fourth with 635,473. Acuña Jr., despite injuries and a down season, still is among the most popular players in MLB, and Harris has had one of the better seasons in the NL.

Unfortunately, Matt Olson, who also has been a top-20 position player in baseball hasn't gotten nearly the same magnitude of love. While he has racked up over 800,000 votes, he trails Freddie Freeman on the ballot by 68,000 votes.

Olson's OPS is nearly 60 points higher than Freeman's, while he's accumulated 0.6 more fWAR and 1.1 more bWAR. The Dodgers do have seven position players who are in a position to move on to the next stage of the voting, which leads any other team, one more than the Braves, but it would certainly be disappointing to see Olson lose out on a chance to start this Midsummer Classic in Philadelphia.

Austin Riley is currently fourth in voting thanks to a very weak field among third basemen. Ha-Seong Kim is sixth, inexplicably, among shortstops. Dominic Smith is third among DHs, but trails the second-place Schwarber by almost 450,000 votes. Mauricio Dubón is 11th among outfielders.
