7 players the Braves could easily call up when rosters expand in September

The Atlanta Braves are just a week-and-a-half from expanded rosters. Although September 1 isn't as fun as it used to be in days past, where teams could have as many as 40 players on their active rosters, the Braves will still have to bring up two more players to the active roster, although only one of those spots can go to a pitcher.

Atlanta has plenty of options, and who they bring up will depend on how they want to shape the roster down the stretch.

7 players who could join the Braves active roster on September 1

Patrick Clohisy

Patrick Clohisy likely has the highest ceiling of any potential call-up the Braves have in their system. An outfielder, Clohisy has excelled on the base paths and on defense, essentially replacing what Eli White gave the club before they traded White to Boston.

The 24-year-old has also been a pleasant surprise, slashing .374/.447/.539 since being promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett. Although he would likely not see many at bats at the big league level, his speed and defense alone would make him worth the addition down the stretch, and into the postseason.

Reynaldo Lopez

Although Lopez wouldn't technically be a call-up, he'll be the easy option for one of the two open roster spots. Lopez is set to make a rehab appearance in Gwinnett this weekend, and the Braves could simply wait to activate him from the IL on September 1.

Lopez has been on the injured list since the beginning of August with a knee injury.

Tyler Uberstine

Uberstine was acquired by the Braves at the deadline from the Red Sox in the deal that sent Eli White to Boston. The righty pitched in one game this season for Boston, and has a 10.43 K/9 and 2.86 ERA between the Red Sox and Braves Triple-A teams.

If the Braves bring back Lopez before the rosters expand, Uberstine could be an option to add another reliever with a high strikeout rate.

James Karinchak

Karinchak has been up and down throughout this year with the Braves. Although he has a 1.86 ERA in 9.2 innings this season with the big league club, his 4.33 FIP and lack of strikeouts at the major league level has led to the Braves being hesitant to give him a long leash.

Still, he has a 13.9 K/9 in Triple-A this season to go along with a 2.56 ERA. If the Braves have a reliever to add, and they want to go with the safe option, Karinchak would be that option.

Rowdy Tellez

The Braves added Rowdy Tellez briefly back in June, and the lefty slugger slashed .200/.273/.500 in 11 plate appearances, but his positional limitations led to the Braves swapping him out with Jim Jarvis at the beginning of July.

Tellez has a .266/.362/.482 with the Stripers this season, and the Braves could bring him back to the majors to give them another big bat off the bench, this time without the concern they might be limited defensively.

Brewer Hicklen

Brewer Hicklen performed well in his eight-game cameo with Atlanta earlier in the season, but was an unfortunate casuality of a roster squeeze at the end of July. Since returning to Gwinnett, Hicklen has slashed .307.400/.548 in 18 games. Hicklen has the advantage of already being on the 40-man roster, over someone like Tellez.

Chuckie Robinson

The Braves could also decide to use the extra spot on the bench to bring up a third catcher. If the Braves wanted to use Drake Baldwin more or less as the full-time DH, having a backup like Chuckie Robinson, who just signed with the organization this week would save them the headache of having to take out the DH if they needed to sub out Sean Murphy.
