For the first time since 2017 the Atlanta Braves will not play in the postseason. The miserable 2025 season came to close on Sunday afternoon as Atlanta's victory over Pittsburgh gave the Braves a 76-86 finish. Even though the fans won't be treated to playoff baseball in Atlanta, plenty of former Braves will suit up this October. Let's take a look at which guys have the chance to shine during the 2025 postseason.
Here are the former Braves players that could help decide the 2025 postseason
Dansby Swanson
The former Braves shortstop will play in the postseason with the Cubs for the first time since signing with Chicago in 2023. The Georgia native has put together a nice season with the Cubbies as he finished with a .244/.300/.417 slash line and 3.3 fWAR. The Cubs will host the Padres for a three game set in Wrigley in the Wild Card round.
William Contreras
The Brewers backstop anchored a solid rotation and produced a .754 OPS and 3.6 fWAR while Milwaukee locked up the top overall seed in baseball. The Brewers await the winner of the Cubs and Padres series for the NLDS.
Freddie Freeman
The former Braves first baseman had countless incredible moments during last season's fall classic. Freeman's 2024 WS MVP performance may have been hard to watch for a lot of Braves fans. Despite the fact that Matt Olson continues to be amazing, anything that Freeman accomplishes in October will likely spark a frustrating discourse amongst Braves fans on social media.
Rafael Montero
One of the Braves trade deadline moves was to ship out Rafael Montero to Detroit. Montero has been mostly solid out of the Tigers bullpen 2.86 ERA in 22 innings. The Tigers will matchup with their AL Central rival the Cleveland Guardians in the Wild Card round.
Max Fried
2021 Game Six hero Max Fried will pitch in pinstripes in October for the first time in his career. Fried will receive Cy Young votes this year after a 19-5, 2.86 ERA, 3.07 FIP, and 4.8 fWAR debut season in the Bronx. The Yankees will matchup with their fiercest rival the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card round.
