With the Atlanta Braves officially clinching their spot in the playoffs, the front office is no doubt considering all options when it comes to building their postseason roster. While the Braves have usually not gone too out of the box on their rosters, there have been times where a surprising addition shows up on the playoff roster and contributes.
Believe it or not, there are five players in the Braves organization who have not appeared in a single regular season game, but could be on the postseason roster.
5 Braves who could make their Braves season debuts in the postseason
Joe Jiménez
Joe Jiménez is the most recognizable name on this list. Once a staple in the bullpen, Jiménez has not thrown a pitch for the Braves in nearly two calendar years. However, Jiménez recently started his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Gwinnnett Stripers, before the minor league season ended.
Jiménez made three appearances, allowing two runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. He struck out two and walked two, Considering that Jiménez wasn't lights out, it's more likely than not that he doesn't come off the IL for the playoffs, but there's always a chance he becomes a surprise addition.
Chuckie Robinson / Maverick Handley
With Drake Baldwin spending over half of his games at designated hitter, the Braves could opt to go with a third catcher on the playoff roster as insurance in case of an emergency to Sean Murphy. However, despite a franchise record in catchers used this season, Atlanta does not have another catcher on the 40-man roster.
Additionally, of the six catchers not currently on the active roster who appeared in a game for the braves this season, only Jair Camargo is currently in the organization.
However, if the Braves do go with a third catcher, it will almost certainly be one with more MLB experience than Camargo. Chuckie Robinson, who appeared in eight games with the Dodgers this season, or Maverick Handley, who made a one-game cameo for Baltimore this season, would be the more likely choices to make the roster. Neither Robinson nor Handley have appeared in a regular season game for the Braves.
Patrick Clohisy
After trading Eli White to the Red Sox at the trade deadline, the Braves forfeited their most obvious playoff pinch runner. While DaShawn Keirsey eventually found his way onto the roster this month, and scored a big run as a pinch-runner against the Phillies, there's a chance that Clohisy makes his MLB debut in the playoffs.
The 24-year-old impressed in the minors this season, and looked posed to be brought up when the rosters expanded this September, but the lefty speedester ended up missing nearly a month with an injury before returning for the final four games of the minor league season.
Clohisy's odds of making the postseason roster rose ever so slightly when Ronald Acuña Jr. exited Tuesday's game against the Reds after fouling a ball off of his shin. The Braves don't have another outfield option on the 40-man roster, and with Lane Thomas already on the injured list, Clohisy might find his way on the roster if Acuña's injury ends up being worse than we think.
Tyler Uberstine
Acquired by the Braves at the deadline, Uberstine appeared in 14 games for the Stripers, allowing six earned runs over 17.1 innings. Although the righy would be a long shot to make the postseason roster, especially considering that the club has not called him up this September despite being on the 40-man roster, the front office might decide that the righty's stuff could play well against their opponent, and make him a surprise addition to the roster.
