After clinching the NL East, the Atlanta Braves returned home on Tuesday for their final homestand of the season. The hope of a fun series with no injuries lasted less than three innings, however, when Ronald Acuña Jr. fouled off a 3-1 pitch off of his shin.
After a few minutes of hoping the pain would go away, Acuña and the Braves training staff decided not to take the chance, bringing Brewer Hicklen off the bench to pinch-hit. Braves Country certainly is certainly hoping this is nothing more than a stinger. If it's more serious, the injury could spell doom for any championship aspirations.

Braves fans anxiously await Ronald Acuña Jr. injury update
To say that this latest Acuña Jr. injury could make or break the season is not an understatement. Since getting a day off against the Dodgers at the end of August, the Braves superstar hasn't just been the Braves best hitter, he's been one of the best hitters in all of baseball. The initial news was good, as X-rays were negative, but there is no world where we are completely out of the woods yet.
The 28-year-old has slashed .372/.433/.686 with seven homers and a 202 wRC+, tied for the second-best wRC+ in this span. It looked like we were finally seeing the Ronald Acuña we've grown accustomed to seeing over the last nine seasons.
The rest of the Braves offense has been rather underwhelming in the same span. While Drake Baldwin, Michael Harris II, and Mauricio Dubón have all put up above-average numbers, Austin Riley, Matt Olson, and Ozzie Albies have all struggled, resulting in an offense that is 17th in runs scored and 16th in wRC+ since August 28.
If Acuña's injury is as minor as we hope, it still might be wise to give him a day or two off before reinserting him in the lineup, just to make sure he's fully healed. If the injury is more serious, the Braves might be in serious trouble in the playoffs, especially considering their struggles against starting pitching and a potential matchup against their NL East foes, the Philadelphia Phillies.
