The Atlanta Braves had some of their best prospects on display during this year's Spring Breakout game against the Yankees. This game featured some of Atlanta's best prospects, such as Tate Southisene, Alex Lodise, Diego Tornes, John Gil, Owen Murphy, Garrett Baumann, and Hayden Harris.
This talented group won that game 8-3 on Saturday night, and this has fans excited for the future of the franchise. There's a very good chance at least some of these players could find their way into the lineup in a couple years as well. If the team plays their cards right, that could end up creating one of the most exciting lineups in recent Braves history.
Let's take a look at what a potential 2028 Opening Day lineup could look like.
1. Ronald Acuña Jr., RF
2. Drake Baldwin, C/DH
3. Matt Olson, 1B
4. Austin Riley, 3B
5. Michael Harris II, CF
6. Sean Murphy, DH/C
7. John Gil, 2B
8. Alex Lodise, SS
9. Luis Guanipa, LF
Potential 2028 Braves lineup features more than just the usual familiar faces
There are a few unknowns when looking ahead to 2028, including Ozzie Albies, who will reach free agency after 2027 and there's no guarantee he will return whatsoever. We will assume Albies doesn't return for nowand the Braves decide to give some of their young prospects a chance. This would allow either Alex Lodise or John Gil to take over at second.
Lodise is known for his incredible defensive ability at shortstop, so he makes the most sense at that position. Lodise made an incredible play this spring that reminded fans why he was drafted so highly in 2025.
Gil is a good shortstop, but he could easily slide over to second base and he has opened a lot of eyes over the last two years. This spring, Gil has featured a lot more power from his bat. If he's able to continue that trend along with his speed, Atlanta has a potential star player on their hands.

The only thing Lodise needs to work on is his offense. He tends to chase, and that won't play for long at the MLB level. His defense is reason enough to give him the chance to prove himself at the plate. He'll have a couple of years to work on that aspect of his game.
Left field will be the final question that could be answered by a prospect here. The Braves could look externally, but they could also give someone like Luis Guanipa an opportunity. Guanipa was signed for $2.5 million during the 2023 international signing period.
Guanipa has dealt with a number of injuries early in his career, so fans really haven't gotten to see his full potential. Guanipa is just 20 years old, so there's plenty of time to develop. He's known as an aggressive hitter who makes solid contact. He's also seen as a decent defender in the outfield, so he'd make a lot of sense for the Braves.
The rest of the lineup features the usual suspects, with Acuña Jr. at the top of the lineup. Acuña Jr. has a club option for the 2028 season, so he should still be with the Braves unless something deeply unfortunate happens in the meantime. Hopefully, Atlanta extends him well before we get to that point.
After Acuña Jr., reigning NL ROY Drake Baldwin would follow. It's a perfect one-two punch for the Braves. Atlanta could then have Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Michael Harris II, and Sean Murphy to round out the lineup. That's a nice group of veteran bats to have before you reach the youngsters at the bottom of the lineup. 2028 could be one of Atlanta's best seasons if things go well for everyone featured here.
