The Atlanta Braves hope to get back on track after losing the final two games of their four-game series against the Mets. One of the shortcomings in the series finale was the bullpen not being at full strength. Top prospect Owen Murphy was tasked with coming in for his MLB debut in a tied game in extra innings. It wasn't an ideal spot to start his career, and unfortunately, the Mets were able to get to him.

Raisel Iglesias had a rare blown save in the ninth inning, so it never should have gone to extra innings. However, when it did, if Robert Suarez had been available, things could have worked out differently. Atlanta has been without their top offseason acquisition due to a forearm injury. That's not what anyone wants to hear about their top bullpen arm.

The Braves have also been without their superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. for a while now. while he wasn't having the best season before the injury, his presence makes a big difference in the lineup. Being without two of the major pieces on the roster is never fun. However, the team found itself in that position, and they're doing their best to tread water. Braves insider Mark Bowman recently gave an update on both players.

Ronald Acuña Jr. could begin rehab assignment next week, but Robert Suarez is been handled with caution

Acuña was never expected to return before the All-Star break, and it was probably wise for the team not to rush him back. Bowman confirmed this but did state that Acuña could start his rehab assignment next week. That would have him ready to hit the ground running at the start of the second half. It will be a welcome sight to have him back at the top of the lineup.

The update on Suarez wasn't as encouraging, and that shouldn't be too surprising. A forearm injury is very serious, and they'll want to be careful with that. So, Bowman reported that he won't be back immediately after the break. Rather, it seems Suarez could return a week or two after the second half begins. Not exactly what the team wants, but it's the right decision since Suarez is set to be around for two more seasons.

Suarez has been so impressive this season with a 0.56 ERA, six walks, 26 strikeouts, and a 0.84 WHIP over 32 innings. They will absolutely need him down the stretch as they hope to win the division and make the postseason.
