Free agency opens up on Monday, November 2 at 5 PM EST, and the Atlanta Braves have several players who are set to hit the open market barring a last-minute bid to re-sign them before the bidding begins. For many of the Braves' free agency, the odds that Atlanta brings them back are very small, but there are a few that would be welcomed back with open arms.
Who should stay and who should go are questions that have been debated ad nauseam already. Most agree that the Braves should be pushing to bring back Tyler Mahle and Mauricio Dubon, and there are certainly worlds where re-signing Raisel Iglesias could make sense.
However, what we don't know yet is where the players the Braves are cutting loose will end up. To figure that out requires paying close attention, especially when it comes to the more minor Braves free agents on the market.
Complete list of Braves' free agents and where they end up this offseason
Below is a list of the Braves players that are headed for free agency this offseason, with notes on where they ended up and the contracts that they ended up signing.
- Mauricio Dubón, SS/UTIL
- Dominic Smith, 1B
- Kyle Farmer, INF
- Ha-Seong Kim, SS
- Lane Thomas, OF
- Tyler Mahle, SP
- Martín Pérez, SP
- Brent Suter, RP
- Elieser Hernández, RP
- Raisel Iglesias, RP
- Joe Jiménez, RP
As we can see, there are several pretty high profile Braves players who are now free agents, although none that are good enough to slap a qualifying offer on even if they were eligible. Few will miss Ha-Seong Kim after his brutal tenure with the Braves, and there isn't much of a rationale for giving Dominic Smith another shot after how badly he faded, but Mahle, Dubon, Iglesias, Martin Perez, and Brent Suter are all very reasonable guesses for reunions with Atlanta this offseason.
We will keep this post updated as more and more signings come through, so make sure you check back throughout the offseason (both before and after the lockout).
