The Atlanta Braves are in a tight playoff race as the calendar approaches the month of September. This makes Robert Suarez's injury timeline all the more frustrating. Alex Anthopoulos' biggest offseason acquisition was one of the best relievers in baseball before his elbow inflammation hit at the end of June.
Despite losing their best arm, the Braves' bullpen has done a decent job. Their 3.42 ERA is the fourth-best in baseball. But they could really use Suarez for the postseason to make them even better.

So, he likely won't be back in time to pitch in the pivotal games against the Phillies. However, the fact that he's felt good throwing from 100 feet to help build up his arm strength is encouraging. Atlanta may be able to add their flamethrowing setup man back a couple of weeks before the postseason begins. Fans would certainly be happy to have him back. He gives them an immediate boost and helps take a little pressure off Raisel Iglesias.
Iggy has struggled a little over the last month with a 4.15 ERA, a 4.60 FIP, 29 hits allowed (5 HR), 12 walks, and 29 strikeouts. However, the last two weeks, while a bit rocky at times, have been a little better.
Suarez has a 0.56 ERA, four saves, 12 holds, six walks, and 26 strikeouts over 32 innings pitched this season. Opponents are batting just .190 against him, which further drives home how imperative it is for him to return.
