When the Atlanta Braves signed international free agent Jose Perdomo back in January of 2024, the excitement surrounding the talented 17-year-old shortstop joining the organization was evident, and rightfully so.

At the time of signing, Perdomo was considered as the No. 3 overall international free agent prospect according to MLB Pipeline out of Venezuela. The shortstop was also considered one of the top hitters in the class, and received one of the largest bonuses of any players to join the Braves organization.

A player with evident tools, the anticipation for Perdomo's eventual Braves debut would already begin then as you'd likely expect. Well, that debut has now officially taken place, as the prospect took to the field for the first time as a member of the Braves organization earlier this month.

Playing with the DSL Braves, Perdomo recently made his professional debut earlier this month back on July 16, going one-for-two with a single in a game vs. the DSL Reds.

Since that game, Perdomo has appeared in six games with the DSL Braves to slash .235/.235/.235 with a .470 OPS, while also posting one SB and a 4:0 K:BB ratio. In addition to those offensive stats, each of Perdomo's appearances defensively have also come solely at shortstop.

Currently the Braves No. 6 overall prospect, Perdomo is still only 17-year's-old, but is already one of the most talented prospects in the entire organization. In fact, the lone position player who is ranked higher than him as a prospect is fellow shortstop Nacho Alavarez Jr., who sits at No. 5 overall.

However, Perdomo is still likely multiple years away from being considered for a MLB call-up, meaning that the potential is there for the shortstop to become one of baseball's top prospects in a few years.

Time will ultimately tell the answer to that question, and we will certainly find out now that Perdomo's professional career is officially off-and-running.
