After the Braves game on Saturday, the excitment in the MLB was just getting started. Benches cleared in a game between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox.
Tim Anderson and Jose Rameriez had some words for each other which ended in punches flying. This altercation has quickly become an iconic moment in baseball, being compared to the classic Jose Bautista and Rougned Odor brawl back in 2016.
These types of fights only come around so often, so it made us think of what moments in Braves history brought fans a little extra excitment via extra cirrcular activities. Here are three of the most recent.
1. Ronald Acuna Intentioally hit by Marlins Jose Urena
Back in 2018, Ronald Acuna was on one of the hottest streaks of his MLB career. He could not stop hitting homeruns, especially against the Marlins and specifically leading off a ball game.
It seemed that the Marlins got tired of seeing Acuna trot around the bases and potentially felt like his antics were breaking "unwritten" rules. With old-school minded Don Mattingly managing the fish at the time, it appeared very clear that Jose Urena was given a green light to beam Ronald Acuna in his first at-bat on August 15th, 2018.
Atlanta did not take kindly to Urena's actions and the bench emptied to stand up for their superstar with manager Brian Snitker leading the charge.
2. Brian McCann vs. Carlos Gomez
Baseball has changed a lot in the last decade. In 2013, it was considered unprofessional and classless to flip the bat and stare down a homerun ball. Carlos Gomez was a little ahead of his time in that department.
On September 25th, 2013, Gomez blasted a leadoff homerun off Paul Maholm. After dropping his bat and taking his sweet time leaving the batter's box, Gomez got an ear full from multiple Braves players, including Freddie Freeman.
Braves long-time catcher Brian McCann felt that Gomez was show boating a little too much. McCann stood in front of home plate, blocking Gomez's path. Benches cleared when Gomez got to the plate and things got ugly.
3. Josh Donaldson Hit By Joe Musgrove
Josh Donaldson has never been the shy type. If he is not happy about something, he will show it. Donaldson put that characteristic on display in his lone season with the Braves in 2019 after being hit by a pitch from Pirates' Joe Musgrove.
Now this altercation was a little different. It was not getting hit by the pitch that Donaldson was upset with. Musgrove was staring down Donaldson as he walked to first. If you are good at reading lips, you can see in the video below that Josh Donaldson did not like that. Warning: Do not read his lips around your children.
Benches cleared and both Donaldson and Musgrove were ejected.
Bonus: Braves vs. Padres 1984
We can't talk about Atlanta Braves brawls without at least mentioning the madness that happened in 1984 against the San Diego Padres. Multiple fights broke out of the course of the game.
This game could have an article of its own, so we will just drop a video breakdown of the classic incidents.
Are there any that we missed? What altercations do you remember the most?
