2023 has been one of the best offensive performances in the history of the Atlanta Braves franchise and Major League Baseball in general. They will be remembered for slugging the ball to all fields and providing some majestic home runs to admire.
They added to their resume for best offensive team in the history of baseball as they now have tied the record for most home runs hit in a single season. That record being held by the 2019 Minnesota Twins with 307 of them.
In dramatic fashion Marcell Ozuna hit his second homer of the day and number 307 for Atlanta in the bottom of the ninth.
Atlanta came into Sunday's game with just 305 home runs but Ozuna slugged two home runs in their season finale with the Nationals to tie the 2019 Twins. Atlanta has hit 307 home runs and I don't know that anyone saw this outcome before the season began.
It has been an incredible ride to say the least. The Braves have been breaking records left and right all season. They have 5 players with 30+ home runs, the MLB leader in home runs/RBI, and the front-runner for NL MVP.
Matt Olson broke Andruw Jones' record for homers in a season and Eddie Matthew's record for most RBI in a season. He also has the most RBI in a season by a Braves first baseman. Ronald Acuna Jr. has broken every record possible. He's the fifth player in baseball history with a 40/40 season and the only player in MLB history with a 30/60, 40/50, 40/60, 40/70 season.
He is also the record holder for most stolen bases in a season after breaking Otis Nixon's record of 72 on Saturday evening. Ronald is the NL MVP and there is no way around that fact.
Those are just a few of the highlights from the 2023 season for the Braves and every player on this team contributed in some way to the record breaking season.
This Braves team is out of this world good and the fact that they have such a great team OPS proves just how great they are offensively. It would be a travesty for this team to not win the World Series but they will be immortalized in MLB history for their performance during this season.
