Shewmake makes MLB debut in Atlanta Braves loss to Orioles
After a one-two-three first inning from Braves starter Max Fried to open the contest, it would not take Atlanta long to find the scoreboard Friday night, as catcher Sean Murphy would deliver an RBI single in the bottom of the frame off Orioles starter Dean Kremer, making the score 1-0.
After a scoreless second altogether, the Orioles would however go on to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the third inning, as Ryan McKenna scored on a RBI groundout from Gunnar Henderson. McKenna originally led off the inning with a groundout, which was later overtuned via replay from out to safe, and would shortly after advance into scoring position at third after a throwing error on a pickoff from Fried.
The Orioles would go on to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth, as Anthony Santander would hit a solo HR off Fried. Both teams would go scoreless across the games next two frames as well, until the Orioles took a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh with a Cedric Mullins solo HR off Fried.
Baltimore also added six more runs during that inning as well, with Fried leaving the game in the top of the seventh after the Orioles loaded the bases. Included in that seventh was a grand slam from Santander for his second HR of the game, as well as the Orioles batting around, to make the score 9-1.
The Braves would eventually get on the scoreboard once again in the bottom of the eighth, as Murphy would hit a three-run HR to make the score, 9-4. That score would however hold across the remainder of the game, with the Orioles going on to win, 9-4.
