The Atlanta Braves are playing hot in the month of June, currently cruising through their schedule on a seven-game winning streak. They will attempt to extend it to eight games as they play for the sweep against the Washington Nationals in game three of the series at Truist Park.
The Nationals are on a six-game skid following their game two loss on Friday, and will be playing to avoid the sweep. Meanwhile, a win for Atlanta in game three will tie their longest winning streak of this season, which lasted from April 10th to April 18th. Ronald Acuña Jr and Macell Ozuna are coming of hot performances in game two, with each scoring two-run homers and with Acuña going 3-for-4 at bat. Let's see if they can keep it up for Sunday's matchup.
Braves vs. Nationals Pitching Matchup
Bryce Elder will be starting for the Braves on the mound in Sunday's game. Elder is having a superb season for the Braves. He's currently pitching a 2.26 ERA, which ranks as the fourth best in the league, as well as having a 4-0 record as a starter. With Max Fried and Kyle Wright out of the starting rotation with injuries, Elder has done a great job as a starter, securing himself as one of the team's best peformers on the mound in their absence.
Meanwhile, Washington is expected to start Trevor Williams for game three. In 2023, Williams has pitched a 4.15 ERA across six starts, posting a 2-4 record as a starter. Williams looked shaky in his last start for the Nationals on June 4th, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks over 5.2 innings in a 3-11 loss against the Philadelphia Phillies. Williams might find himself in trouble having to pitch against one the best offenses in the league.
