The Atlanta Braves were walked off by the Cleveland Guardians, 6-5, in extra innings on Independence Day. This snapped the Braves nine-game winning streak. However, Atlanta returns on Wednesday evening to finish their series at Cleveland in a rubber match. Following the conclusion of the series, the Braves head to Tampa with a three-game series against the Rays.
Starters for Braves at Guardians Game Three
Michael Soroka is expected to start for the Braves on the mound in game three. After struggles with injuries the past few years, Soroka is back this year for his first full season as a starting pitcher since 2019, with today's game marking his fourth appearance this season. However, for a player who hasn't seen major league play in a few years, Soroka has started off a bit slow.
In his first season back from injury, Soroka has a 1-1 record as a starter, with a 6.89 ERA. Soroka and the Braves look to close the series out before heading off to Tampa to face the Rays as the top two teams in baseball clash.
For Cleveland, pitcher Cal Quantrill will be getting the starting nod for the Guardians. For the 2023 season, Quantrill has a 2-5 starting record while posting a 6.18 ERA. Obviously, the starting pitching for game three doesn't look too pretty for both the Guardians and the Braves. It will be interesting to see how Quantrill tries to slow down Atlanta's smoking-hot offense.
In a head-to-head battle on the 4th of July, Ozzie Albies went 2-for-4 while crushing two home runs for the Braves. Kolby Allard put up an impressive 2.79 ERA through 5.0 innings. Their efforts were not enough, however, as they lost to the Guardians in extra innings. Let's see if the Braves can come out and win the series before continuing their road trip with the All-Star break just around the corner.
